The “punks” of today have mainly no clue at all. They are “scene kids”-Nothing more, nothing less!
I have been out many times, in Belfast city centre, with my boyfriend of that time, who is an extremely well known front man, for one of punks biggest bands. These “punks” would see his hawk, and come over-Just talking, as you do when you are at bars/gigs etc…
These kids would talk about how much rebel (Like they‘ve read How To Be A Punk 101), and how “Hardcore” they are. They would rhyme off bands that they listen to, not realising that when they said The Exploited, it was in fact Wattie Buchan they were talking to! They were clueless to this, and we didn’t tell, or correct them-Which proves they kinda didn’t have a fuckin’ clue what they were talking about at all!
Spikes and studs don’t make you punk… Neither does the music you listen to…
With the troubles crippling Northern Ireland for so many years, and our government consisting purely of terrorists, and criminals, you would think that our punk wave would be one of the strongest going, yet it still seems that “punk” is something you buy at Hot Topic, or Cult clothing….
    Sad. Very sad.

in regards to alanas comment, thats a bit of a generalising statement, sounds to me like your jut trying to big yourself up really. you obviouly dont see that much of the punk scene then. what i see is kids building it for themselves, when theres no gigs they make their own gigs, form bands, tour, record, hell i know bands who are just giving their releases away by download to spread teh music. your right studs and spikes dont mak you a punk, but neither does being negative towards other people nd thinking that your better than them, cos thats just ignorant and mkes you worse than them. you could use your time doing far better things for th scene than hating on people who you think are less of a punk than you, by maybe helping them out a bit and not trying to gloat abotu your boyfriend being wattie buchan. reeling off bnds dont mak you a punk, but dating a singer from prehistoric bnd(not that they didnt play soem good tunes) doesnt either, sad. very sad indeed! . I think the punk scene is awesome at the moment, really grass roots, and DIY. tke my advice, go out and do somthing, be positive and contribute! you make punk what it is, so fuckin make it!
