Punks unite in benefit for REKNAW

News

REKNAW (read backwards), well known to London punks recently suffered a substantial loss and a benefit has been setup to try and raise funds to replace a soundsytem.

Message from Andy at Pus Promos.

“Hey people, some of you may of heard, some may not. Anyway, over the weekend Bev from Reknaw’s van got torched. He had about 10 grands (£) worth of equipment in it. A few of us in London are gonna sort a few benefit gigs to raise some funds for him and was wondering if anyone elsewhere in the country would be able to do the same. Or if you know of any bands that would like to play at one of the London shows then please get them in touch. The first one is gonna be at The Dirty South in Lewisham on 30th April.

If ya know Reknaw then you’ll know they’ve been keeping the underground scene alive for years, from squat parties, gigs or driving bands around Europe.

A facebook page has been setup to explaint more about the fire:

After the terrible arson attack that ripped into the heart of the underground party scene ~ We can rebuild it!

After a failed attempt at steeling Bev’s van + REKNAW sound system outside my flat on an East London housing estate at about 2am this morning, the Bastard/s decided to torch it instead! We were having a drink and reminiscing about the old days at the Peckham Dole House and suddenly we saw these flashing blue lights outside… I figured it was the police (it’s a rough estate) Bev got up to look out the window; only to see his van and his livelihood, a blaze in the middle of the road and the fire brigade in full swing putting out the flames!
The Police didn’t bother turning up until 4am…
The whole thing was totally burnt out! Flames coming out everywhere! Everything pretty much destroyed about £10′000 worth!

So let’s try to make this right!
Don’t let the bastards grind us down!
