Malcolm McLaren, the former manager of the Sex Pistols, has died of mesothelioma at a hospital in Switzerland at the age of 64.
His body is expected to be brought home to be buried in Highgate cemetery, north London.
Most famously known as the former manager of the Sex Pistols his spokesman told The Independent:
“He had been suffering from cancer for some time, but recently had been full of health, which then rapidly deteriorated. He died in New York this morning. We are expecting his body to be brought back to London and buried in Highgate Cemetery.”
McLaren was often noted as the driving force behinds the Sex Pistols notoriety including the May 1977 (during the week of the Queen’s silver jubilee) when he booked a boat trip down the Thames from which the band were to perform their single “God Save The Queen” outside the Houses of Parliament. It didn’t materialise as the boat was raided by police who in turn.
