Joey Cape + Tony Sly + Jon Snodgrass + Duncan Redmonds

Joey Cape + Tony Sly + Jon Snodgrass + Duncan Redmonds

Islington Academy
London, UK
Thursday 4th March 2010
Having enjoyed a phoner interview with Joey (Lagwagon) and Tony  (No Use For A Name) about six weeks prior to their European tour kicking off, I was pretty damn excited and keen to see the guys accompanied by Jon Snodgrass on this tour . Tagging along with the guys…

Reel Big Fish + Big D And The Kids Table + Sonic Boom Six

Koko
London
Friday January 29th 2010
I arrived as quickly and early as I could at Koko, a venue increasingly being used in London since the closure of the Astoria and Mean fiddler venues nearby and as London lacks midsized venues for line-ups like tonight, I’m going to have to learn to overcome my own reluctance to…

Static Thought + The Human Project + Company L + Girl Fixer + Section 13

Static Thought + The Human Project + Company L + Girl Fixer + Section 13

So I’m going to start this little review with a little rant. I realize money is sparse and I realize there are many gigs to choose from in the capital. But I have to say that increasingly at times the lack of numbers at punk rock shows irritates me to the core. When the ‘big…

New York Dolls + Urban Voodoo Machine

New York Dolls + Urban Voodoo Machine

The HMV Forum
London, UK
Friday 4th December 2009
I first heard of the Urban Voodoo Machine a year ago, when I asked Vic Ruggiero (of The Slackers) what current bands he recommended, fully anticipating/hoping to be directed to some obscure New York underground act. Instead he sang the praises of this unusual, boundary-defying act from London’s Dalston….

The Living End + Sucioperro + Failsafe

The Living End + Sucioperro + Failsafe

Cockpit
Leeds, UK
Saturday 28th November 2009
It’s nice to see that tonight, Failsafe have the following I think they deserve.  Seeing them play two weeks ago to a pitifully small crowd, I’m glad that they’ve now got a room full of people to perform to.  Sticking to their new album, they blast out tracks such as ’Only…

Propagandhi + Protest The Hero + Strike Anywhere

Propagandhi + Protest The Hero + Strike Anywhere

Koko
London, UK
Monday 30th November 2009
On a busy night running between sets and conducting interviews with Propagandhi and Strike Anywhere, add in the Dublin fatigue from the previous weekend’s shenanigans; it’s fair to say I was a tired man for the show!
Koko has also not ever quiet been my favourite venue for a punk rock show,…

Mariachi el Bronx + Jaakko and Jay

Mariachi el Bronx + Jaakko and Jay

Islington Academy
London, UK
Monday 23rd November 2009
Convinced to go along and buy tickets for the show after failing to secure a legitimate pass and based on a friends recommendation I managed to enjoy a few drinks before heading into the Islington Academy, as I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I know of The Bronx, and…

Rise Against+ Thursday + Poison The Well

Rise Against+ Thursday + Poison The Well

Brixton Academy
London, UK
Saturday 21st November 2009
I was lucky enough to catch both Thursday and Rise Against play earlier in the year in Belgium at Groezrock, and narrowly missed them playing together in the US, so was more than happy to snag passes for Rise Against’s biggest headlining show to date in London.
It was whilst…

The Luchagors + Mr Shiraz + The Sewersuckers

The Luchagors + Mr Shiraz + The Sewersuckers

TJ’s
Leeds, UK
Friday 6th November 2009
I arrive at TJ’s after a slightly turbulent journey (neither me nor the taxi driver having the faintest idea where it is!) and walk in to the progressive punk sound of Leeds band Sewersuckers halfway through their set.  My first thought, as superficial as it sounds, is that the singer really…

Failsafe + The Headstart + Saving Time + Juno

Failsafe + The Headstart + Saving Time + Juno

The Cockpit
Leeds, UK
Tuesday 10th November 2009
I am surprised to find the gig taking place in the upstairs area rather than one of the two main rooms. First band on the bill, Juno, kick off their set as I arrive upstairs. The Leeds four piece open with “Forget Everything I Say”, singer Rob Kirk’s voice reminds…

Street Dogs + Civet + Strawberry Blondes

Street Dogs + Civet + Strawberry Blondes

Islington Academy
London
5th November 2009
The Strawberry Blondes, regular Welsh support act to great touring bands in the UK play to a small crowd who remain largely unenthusiastic. I do often sense from people that the band is disliked but I genuinely don’t know why. Their sound is a little stylized yes, and they could be…

The Drellas + The Dead Class + Project

The Drellas + The Dead Class + Project

Islington Bar Academy
London, UK
Thursday 22 October 2009
I have been pushed for a while to check out The Dead Class and hence my reason for the gig at the Bar Academy in North London. There is a sparse crowd and after garnering some information from the tour manager for the Anti Pop Tour 2009  I…

    • NEW ALBUMAugust 20, 2009

Dun2Def have just released their third studio album to much critical aclaim and continue to attract new admirers of their new/old school sound and will be visiting Athens in October to play a one off show with the Partisans on the back of their now legendary performance at the Rebellion festival where they attracted an audience of over 600 as the first band up on the last day of the festival no small achievement!!

    • Late review of The Rabble @ Rebellion 09August 19, 2009

At Rebellion this year the Olympia stage suffered from persistent sound problems. Indeed these went a long way to ruining the experience of bands such as The Damned, The Lurkers and Voodoo Glow Skulls. Yet despite this, The Rabble put on a brilliant show; the words and the music being audible throughout the room and they attracted a huge crowd even though the legendary UK Subs performing at the same time. Not really having had much exposure to this band prior to the festival, I came away wanting to hear more and hoped they would play Rebellion again next year or at least do another UK tour soon. My only complaint about it all would be the number of mohicans blocking my view. To sum up, The Rabble are a band who put on a solid live performance and if you have the oppurtunity are most definately worth seeing live.
