Collapser

Collapser
I wasn’t familiar with the band, and the record is everything you would want in a catchy hook-laden sing-along pop punk record. And that’s about it. It’s not re-inventing the wheel, and I think sadly trails in the wake of so many bands that have done it before.
Having said that the gruff vocals (no, not like the Lawrence Arms I kept reading elsewhere) and the musicianship are both good, but the themes (you guessed it; love drinking etc) don’t convey originality although it is by en large a joyous and fun record.
I’m probably pulling punches as the record does sound formulaic, but then again the clean cut sound and the upbeat and catchy tracks that litter “Collapser” and the pop punk genres as a whole are a proven success and sought for by their fans, much as The Clash inspired approach has directly influenced another more gritty generation of bands that might appeal to someone else.
So, If you like pop punk, great grab this and you will enjoy it. If you don’t, well you won’t enjoy this!
