Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts
The music world would be a worse place if American Steel did not return from their lengthy hiatus. Their return in 2007 with “Destroy Their Future” was a triumphant return as they stormed back to remind us all of their artistic ability and diverse approach to deliver records that varied in style but at the core is a reflection of a band that is gifted in song writing and progressive guitar abilities. “Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts” is quickly becoming my favourite American Steel record; again diversifying and bringing with it a open invitation to dance your ass off to a incredibly upbeat, soulful and ever intelligent approach to music. It’s a mature record that sits uncomfortably in the punk rock genre but rightly so- as it’s perhaps the finest example of meshing the progression of the genre with streetwise attitude to push punk rock in a new direction. American Steel sits unashamedly high above their peers and with this record you can sing out loud with them.
Fav tracks: ‘Tear the place apart’, ‘Safe and Sound’, ‘Your ass aint laughing now’, ‘From here to hell’, ‘Lights out’, ‘Finally alone’
