Fuck The Facts- Disgorge Mexico The DVD

Disgorge Mexico The DVD
Fuck The Facts

For a band I have never heard of, Canadian head bangers Fuck the Facts are mesmerizingly talented. Mel Mongeon leads this wolf pack with her ultimate growl that would bury a man alive and the rest of the band play like they haven’t separated since birth. The sound coming out of this band is something every brutal metal head wants; quick mosh, angry lyrics, and some technical instrumentation.

With an opening scene of a man on fire, you know this is going to be crazy and the African tribal music in the background sure as hell makes you want to keep watching; you can see from the crowd that they are hyped for this band too.

Mel introduces the band in her native tongue and they set off with ‘Borders’ which I personally would like to describe as Fugazi on a metal day. It’s a minute of just pure groove, and works really well. ‘No Return’ comes into play next and everyone goes crazy, the camera angles the band uses are very innovative and adds atmosphere to the venue that looks like the Camden Underworld for you Londoners.

Throughout the DVD the camera angles create a very nostalgic feel to the footage and has an effect added to make the film resemble an old school film reel which I think is really neat. The weird little visual effects are really well used and placed in the right places, not being overused.

As for the bands performance I have some criticisms, one being that the other members of the band remain far too static, the other being that the first four songs sound really similar. I know for grindcore it’s hard to make something different every time but they could have arranged the set list a little better and placed different tracks like ‘Dead End’ and ‘Driving Through Fallen Cities’ further apart which would be to their advantage.

That being said Mel is full of movement and times her fist in the air posture perfectly at the little breaks in between songs, clearly showing that the singer knows the songs inside out and can go nuts while still keeping her performing tight as hell!

‘Le Culture Du Faux’ has a really great scene with a camera placed on top of a car and driving down an old 50’s style road in black and white, this makes the beat down really emotional and quite compelling to be part of, it’s nice to see glimpses of the imagination like this and not just a full blown orgy of death scenes.

Another scene worth mentioning is the song after ‘Le Culture Du Faux’ called ‘State Of Panic’, when the guitarist is chugging a chord progression, there is a scene of a man in a race car driving down a drag strip in the dessert going faster and faster until the drop of the song, where everyone can two-step their way to a headache! The scene carries on the whole way through the song where the cars evolve and get better and better, faster and faster; it’s really interesting to watch while listening to one of the more original tracks.

I love how half way through the DVD, carrying on with the old vintage 50’ style they have a screen pop up saying “Thanks for being with us the evening, we hope that in some small way we have been able to add to your pleasure, comfort and relaxation. Fuck The Facts.” and then “Only a short time left, so hustle to your refrigerator” which are pretty comical to see in the middle of a grindcore set.

Towards the end of the DVD the scenes get a little bit more gruesome and grindcore stylized with scenes of someone chopping a man up with an axe and buildings being blown up from nuclear explosions.

In a nutshell this DVD is well worth watching just to get an insight into how an arguably lesser known band can make a very big impact on anyone, whether you like that sort of music or not. Well worth buying when it comes out on May 11th.
