Get Rich Or Try Dyin’

Get Rich Or Try Dyin’
Opening track ‘Breso’ is by far my favorite on the record from this Dublin based (and I’m not going to say 3rd wave ska) band. Relying on a keyboard and guitar driven sound rather than horn section/brass fueled, this ska band shows glimmers of hope. Although they will get tarred with the 3rd wave ska brush, I think they have moved beyond that and not as poppy or straight forward.
Like popular current trendsetters in moving beyond the silly pop-ska trend Streetlight Manifesto or even Mad Caddies, there are some positive signs here from Chewing On Tinfoil and with some much needed direction they could escape the afore mentioned genre-tagging.
There are songs which seem out of place and far more rock (“Littlefoot”) and all together the album could be tightened up with better song selection as it does seem to drag on at times. The record feels like a showcase of their evolution as a band and I think the next record will better dictate the bands chosen sound and direction.
